Psychologist, clinical researcher, mental health advocate
Dr Hannah Thomas is a practicing clinical psychologist and researcher with special interest in child, adolescent, and family mental health. For more than 10 years she has conducted applied clinical and epidemiological research to better understand the modifiable risk factors that contribute to mental illness across the life course.
She is one of the chief investigators on the Australian Child Maltreatment Study which is the most comprehensive study of the prevalence, health outcomes, and economic burden of child maltreatment in Australia. The study findings released in April 2023 underscore the strong moral and economic imperative for Australia to develop a long-term plan for change.
As a clinician-researcher Hannah aims to raise the public health profile of the profound effects childhood adversity can have on lifelong mental health and relationships, and secondly, advocate for the enhancement of prevention and trauma-informed care for those with lived experience.
